Make It Big
Album Summary
Make It Big came roaring out of the studios in 1984 on the Epic Records label, and honey, when this record dropped, the whole world stopped and listened. Produced with meticulous care by George Michael and Chris Porter, this was the album where Wham! stopped being a promising young act from Hertfordshire and became bona fide international superstars. George Michael's songwriting instincts were firing on all cylinders, and the duo brought a warmth and sophistication to their sound that elevated every track. The United States, which had been a little slow to come around, finally opened its arms wide — and Make It Big walked right in and made itself at home at the top of the charts.

Artist Details
Wham! was a British pop duo formed in Hertfordshire, England, in 1981, consisting of George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley, who had been childhood friends. The group defined the sound of 1980s pop with their bright, danceable tracks blending elements of new wave, blue-eyed soul, and synth-pop, producing hits like Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go, Careless Whisper, and Last Christmas. They achieved massive commercial success on both sides of the Atlantic, becoming one of the best-selling musical acts of the decade and notably becoming the first Western pop act to perform in China in 1985. Wham! disbanded in 1986 at the height of their popularity, a decision that allowed George Michael to launch what would become a critically acclaimed solo career. Their cultural legacy endures, particularly through Last Christmas, which remains one of the most recognizable holiday songs in pop history and finally reached number one on the UK Singles Chart in 2021, over three decades after its original release.
